AllMusic Mag was founded in 2014 by editors who believed two things at once: popular music deserves criticism as rigorous as literature receives, and the streaming era was starving it. A decade on, we are an independent editorial publication with a staff of 34 — critics, historians, translators, and contributing musicians — publishing essays, reviews, oral histories, listening guides, and interviews that you can't get from a playlist or a feed of hot takes.

Our archive holds 18,400+ long-form pieces, fully searchable by artist, label, producer, and era — a working reference, not a content graveyard. Weekly output is deliberate and edited: fewer takes, more thinking.

What we publish

• Album reviews at length, with context: where a record sits in its scene, its lineage, and its maker's career.
• Oral histories built from new interviews — the scenes and sessions that shaped records, told by the people who were there.
• Essays and listening guides that teach ears, not opinions — how to hear what changed and why it mattered.

Our readers are music enthusiasts aged 25 to 55 who track discographies, argue about mixing choices, and buy vinyl they actually play. Working musicians read us too — and write for us, which keeps the criticism honest about how records get made.

Independence as a sound

No label sets our coverage, no PR embargo writes our lede, and when we're wrong about a record, the reassessment gets published — criticism without the courage to revise is just fandom with a byline. AllMusic Mag is independent music journalism that treats popular music as serious culture: the deepest well of criticism, history, and listening on the internet, refreshed daily since 2014.
